“… It’s the thrillingly atmospheric Nocturnes which steal the show…” ****
Michael Beek – BBC Music magazine (Brief Notes Section) – July 2022
“The Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and Mikko Franck begin this entire Debussy CD with the 1888 secular cantata La Damoiselle Elue … The music is set for two soloists, women’s choir and orchestra. Mikko Franck and the two very sensitively singing soloists, as well as the excellent Maîtrise de Radio France, succeed very well in expressing the mystical character of the piece in a consistently gripping interpretation. The symphonic fragments from Le Martyre de Saint-Sébastien … are rendered in an excellent, highly atmospheric interpretation… Franck achieves a similar tension in the ‘Trois Nocturnes’, conducting in a very sensual and impressionistic manner that allows him to render the atmospheric density of the music in breath-taking manner.” *****
